Due to COVID-19, most facilities are closed to NCTD therapy dog visits, but we are scheduling training classes, virtual workshops, and in-person meet-and-greets as we prepare to resume visits this spring. As always, we will continue to focus on the safety of our clients and volunteers.
NCTD requests that all volunteers and participants in NCTD sponsored activities who are medically able receive a COVID vaccine prior to taking part in any therapy team visit, indoor class, open floor, evaluation or other event. The current CDC guidelines for masking and social distancing should be followed by attendees at all NCTD events being held indoors or outdoors.
National Capital Therapy Dogs, Inc. (NCTD) is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that provides animal-assisted therapy and other activities to people in health facilities, shelters, schools and libraries. Established in 1990, NCTD has steadily expanded its operations, and is now recognized as one of the top animal-assisted therapy organizations in the country.
NCTD provides a full range of therapy services to our approved facilities. The people we visit include medical and psychiatric patients, stroke and trauma clients, residents in facilities for the elderly, palliative care patients, abused women and their children, homeless families and troubled teenagers.
We also have an active R.E.A.D. Program which encourages children to read to our dogs in order to improve their reading motivation, fluency and confidence.
NCTD holds frequent training and evaluation classes throughout the Washington DC area. Please visit our Calendar of Events for further information.
