Virtual Trick Dog Workshop

Are You Interested? Please let us know.

On Saturday, Feb. 12 from 1 – 2:30 p.m., NCTD volunteers will have the opportunity to learn some new tricks. Board member and volunteer Beth Peterson is presenting a 90-minute Zoom workshop, when you will learn multiple tricks that will qualify you and your dog for an American Kennel Club (AKC) Trick Dog Novice title.

To participate, please email Beth at delmarvaregionnctd@gmail.com .

As all NCTD, Inc., Therapy Dogs will already have their AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) titles – you will only need 5 of the 10 tricks required for completion of Novice title accomplishment. Mixed breed and purebred dogs are eligible. According to the AKC, CGC evaluators can now evaluate AKC Trick Dog titles via video.

There are a few supplies Beth would like you to have ready:

1.      Great Tasting Treats Your treats should be soft and about the size of half your little fingernail, the size of a pea, and something your dog really likes.

2.      Box Get a box your dog could comfortably stand inside.  Example – small dogs, less than 20 pounds, can use a storage (paper) box lid. You could cut down a bigger box that’s the right width, but too tall. The height of the box should be less than your dog’s elbow height and half that high would be fine. Your dog should be able to get into the box and stand comfortably with all 4 legs inside.

3.      Cup Plastic is best. Paper cups are fine, too. They can be 2-inches high to 5 – 6 inches high.

  •

4.      Toy A small toy your dog loves to play with and has brought back to you before.

If we have a small class, we might not need 90-minutes. If many people join us, we might go longer than 1-1/2 hours to get everyone through their tricks. Not all dogs will do every trick we work on. Don’t worry, this will be fun!
